Van insurance for young drivers

Just as young drivers pay more for car insurance, young van drivers also pay more for their insurance too.

Young drivers are aged 17-24 in the eyes of insurers so if you fall into that category, you’re unfortunately going to have to pay more for your insurance than older drivers.

How much is van insurance for young drivers?

If you’re under the age of 25, your van insurance is going to be expensive and unfortunately there’s no avoiding that.

There aren’t any specialist insurance policies for young van drivers and because of industry statistics – they show that drivers aged 17-24 are more likely to be involved in an accident and make a claim than any other age category – young driver van insurance will always be pricey.

Can I reduce the cost of my van insurance?

There are different ways you can reduce the cost of your van insurance but they’re specific to all types of motor insurance – there’s no magic pill unfortunately!

Things like parking in a locked garage or on a driveway will lower your premium compared to parking on the road, as will fitting an immobiliser approved by your insurer.

Keeping your mileage low, avoiding modifications and increasing the cost of your voluntary excess will also help reduce costs.

We’ve compiled a list of ways you can get the cheapest van insurance quotes available to you here.

What type of van insurance should I get?

The level of cover you need for your van depends on the way you use your vehicle.

If you use your van as your day-to-day run-around and not for work, a personal insurance policy should be enough for you.

If you use your van for work purposes, whether that’s for delivering goods or getting from job to job with tools and materials on-board, you’ll need a form of business van insurance.

Is personal van insurance more expensive than business van insurance?

Generally, a personal van insurance policy will cost less than a business van insurance policy.

That’s because a business van insurance policy needs to cover your van for more on the road use than a personal policy will – essentially you’ll use it more and at peak times of the day.

If your business van insurance policy also covers the goods and tools inside, it will be more expensive again.

That’s why it’s important to only get the level of insurance you need – if you don’t need business van insurance, don’t get it because the costs will quickly add up.
